The Kirkkopuisto Photo Annual 2016 featuring a new series by French photographer Laurent Chéhère will be opening Thursday September 22nd at 8pm. Join us at the Kirkkopuisto cultural notice boards in Jyväskylä for refreshments!

Laurent will be in residency in Jyväskylä June 13th – June 21st, and his images will be presented in the Kirkkopuisto Photo Annual during the Valon Kaupungin festival at the end of September 2016.

Ranskalainen katutaiteilija Arthur-Louis Ignoré (ALI) valittiin Äkkigallerian viidennen Katustipendin saajaksi. Hän työskenteli Jyväskylän kaduilla 3.–7.5.2016.

Ignoré tunnetaan näyttävistä ornamenteistaan, joita hän on toteuttanut niin katu- kuin seinä ja kattopintoihinkin ympäri Ranskaa. Äkkigallerian Katustipendin myötä taiteilija saapui ensimmäistä kertaa pohjoismaihin ja Suomeen. Jyväskylässä maalauksia toteutettiin Seminaarinmäen kampusalueelle, sekä Kilpisenkadun kevyen liikenteen tunneliin. 

Äkkigallerian katustipendi myönnetään vuosittain kekseliäästi ja omaperäisesti kaupunkitilassa toimiville taiteilijoille. Äkkigallerian stipendin tarkoituksena on tuoda taidetta kaupunkitilaan sekä elävöittää keskustelua julkisen tilan käytöstä. Ensimmäinen Äkkigallerian katustipendi myönnettiin vuonna 2011. Edelliset Katustipendi-taiteilijat ovat Re-Clip, Jukka Silokunnas, Jussi Riihelä ja Jim Bachor.

Stay on your toes and keep your eyes open. ALI will be painting around Jyväskylä for the next 5 days. 

All locations will be mapped and published for the Yläkaupungin yö festival. (May 21st, 2016). 

Äkkigallera 38: The Pine Tree

In April 2015, Äkkigalleria presented Kevät Egyptistä (Äkki 32) showing new work by 11, young Egyptian artists. The film-maker and video artist Muhammad Taymour, collected video documentation material for a future film during his visit to Jyväskylä at this time. 

Exactly one year later, this short film is complete and we will show it for the very first time publicly in Äkkigalleria 38!

Synopsis 

Finland is a very beautiful country but it will never show you the real beauty easily. Only those strangers who can cross the hypothetical boarders and break the imaginary fences of the country will be able to see this beauty within, other than that you have to be a Finnish citizen.

Muhammad Taymour is an Egyptian Artist born in 1985. He became interested in Photography when

he was 22 years old, and his work is influenced by Abstract, Surreal & Conceptual Art.

His interest turned gradually to filmmaking & video art to express his thoughts in a better way.

As a Director & Video Editor, Muhammad seeks creative approaches for story telling and never gives up in his search for perfection.
