Äkkigalleria 32 - Kevät Egyptistä

This April we are bringing an "Egyptian Spring" to Jyväskylä with the work of 11 young Egyptian artists.

Yasime ElMeleegy – Cactus Borders

Seven out of the eleven artists will be coming to Jyväskylä to personally participate in the exhibition.
The work shown will include: photography, drawing, embroidery-drawing, installation, film, video-animation and performance.

Äkkigalleria will also organize a discussion about the effect of current politics on contemporary Egyptian art with the artists.

The exhibition will be open from Thursday the 23rd to Sunday the 26th of April.
The opening will be held on Wednesday evening, the 22nd of April, from 5–7pm.

Artist talk, discussion will take place on Sunday the 26th at 3pm.
The events are free of charge. Everyone is welcome!

Äkkigalleria 31 (eyesore)

This Äkkigalleria campaign from January 2015 went a little under the radar.

The project was organized together with a team of artists and activists from the Jyväskylä region and lasted for about 2 weeks before being dismantled by the owner(?) to make room for more advertisement!

We are taking a moment to look back on 2014 and relive the highlights!

Äkkigalleria organized 7 exhibitions this year including one (Äkkigalleria's first) exhibition outside of Jyväskylä in Vancouver Canada. This year focused for the most part on residencies and exchanges. The first exchange was for Äkkigalleria 24 where a biologist worked together with 2 short-film animators from England. Another exchange was through Mexican artist Mazatl who brought a collection of political prints from the Justseeds collective and the La Convergencia Gráfica MALLA. Äkkigalleria collaborated with Vancouver gallerist from inital gallery to bring Finnish art to Vancouver Canada. And finally through our Photoannual residency artist, Carolina Cruz Guimarey, we ended the year with a shortfilm screening organized at the university of Valencia in Spain.

Äkkigalleria 30 - Inner Nature: kansainvälistä lyhytelokuvaa Jyväskylässä

Näytökset lauantaina 20.12.2014 klo 16 ja klo 18 Galleria Hoppa, Kauppakatu 4, Jyväskylä, Finland

Äkkigallerian perinteiden mukaan talvipäivän seisauksen aikoihin järjestetään taideretriitti, joka auttaa rauhoittumaan ja irrottautumaan joulunajan kiireestä ja kaupallisuudesta. Tänä vuonna Äkkigalleria esittää kansainvälisen Inner Nature -lyhytelokuvakilpailun tuloksia. Mysticism in a concious body -teemalla järjestetty lyhytelokuvakilpailu keräsi ihmisen ja luonnon suhteeseen liittyviä lyhytelokuvia ympäri maailmaa. Näytökseen valittiin 18 teosta, jotka esitetään Jyväskylän lisäksi muun muassa Espanjassa, Ranskassa ja Chilessä. Inner Nature -kilpailun koordinaattoreina ovat toimineet José Albelda, Chiara Sgaramella ja Estela de Frutos. Ihmiskeho toimii elokuvien lähtökohtana pohdittaessa identiteetin, empatian, riippuvuuden, ympäristöetiikan ja väliaikaisuuden monimutkaisia käsitteitä taiteen suomin keinoin. Kahdeksantoista teosta tarjoilevat lähestymistavoiltaan rikkaan katsauksen näihin elokuvakilpailun teemoihin.
