Äkkigalleria 25. Printing assistance

This coming weekend (19. and 20.04.) residency artist Mazatl will be needing printing assistance to print the large scale print (2m x 9m) for the Äkkigalleria 25. exhibition.

This is an excellent opportunity for artists, art students and enthusiasts of in printmaking. Mazatl is a world class printer specializing in the wood cut process. Working with him is a very unique opportunity to observe and learn from a professional.

Vegan food for all participants will be provided by Äkkigalleria.

Please welcome: Mazatl & Keski-Vähälä along with

the Justseeds & La Convergencia Gráfica MALLA

Mexican printmaker and activist Mazatl and Finnish letter block printer Mikko Keski-Vähälä meet for the first time on Tuesday April 8th. Together they will work over the next two weeks to create an exhibition of new work in Jyväskylä, Finland. This short and intense residency will take place at the Ratamo Centre for Printmaking, and at the Tourulan Kuvataiteilija artist studios. The artists will be working intensively at both of these locations and you are welcome to stop by and take a look!

Mazatl is an active member of the printmaking community in both Mexico and the United States. For Äkkigalleria 26. Mazatl has brought the portfolio of prints "La autonomía es la vida, la sumisión es la made by 20 artists from two colletives: the Justseeds, anchored in the United States, and La Convergencia Gráfica MALLA, a loose organization of printmakers based in Mexico.  This exhibition of prints are a response to a theme of idependence and will be shown right after Äkkigalleria 25. at the same location.
In 2012 another member of the Justseeds collective visited Jyväskylä, Roger Pete. Printmaker Peet was the Vakiopaine guest artist invited by art-coordinator Willie Männikkölahti at the Vakiopaine venue.

Äkkigalleria will open on Tuesday, April 22nd. 

Äkkigalleria 25: Mazatl & Keski-Vähälä, will open at 4pm at Yliopistonkatu 4B
Open 11am – 6pm daily and 10–4pm on Saturday

And Äkkigalleria 26: Justseeds, will be open the following week at the same location 28.04. – 01.05.

 Open 11am – 6pm daily and 12–4pm on Vappu.
The exhibitions are free events, everyone is welcome!
